GitLab sells three tiers — Free, Premium and Ultimate — across three deployment models (GitLab.com SaaS, Self-Managed on your own infrastructure, and Dedicated single-tenant SaaS). As of August 2026 only two of those tiers carry a public price: Free at $0 and Premium at $29 per user per month billed annually. GitLab has removed the public Ultimate price entirely; it is now quote-only. That change matters for Indian buyers because almost every pricing aggregator still publishes the old $99 Ultimate figure, and budgets built on it are wrong. GitLab bills in USD and publishes no rupee rate card. Every INR figure here is a worked conversion at ₹95.2 to the dollar (the rate on 26 August 2026), shown pre-GST and indicative — it is not a GitLab list price, and it moves with the exchange rate. At that rate Premium works out to roughly ₹2,760 per user per month, about ₹33,100 per user per year pre-GST — call it ₹39,100 per user per year once 18% GST is added. A 25-developer team is therefore around ₹8.3 lakh a year on Premium before GST. Buying GitLab directly from an Indian entity means a foreign remittance: 18% GST under reverse charge as an import of service, TDS on the payment, Form 15CA/CB paperwork, and no clean input tax credit trail. Bought through National IT Service you get a domestic INR invoice with GST charged on the face of it, which your CA can claim ITC against in the normal way. GitLab states on its own pricing page that prices may vary when purchased through a partner or reseller, so the rupee number on a partner quote is not simply the USD list price run through a converter.

Free is ₹0 but caps you at 5 users per top-level group. Ultimate has no published price any more and is quoted per deal. There is no official GitLab rupee rate card, so any INR figure you see (including ours) is a conversion, not a list price.
GitLab pulled the public Ultimate price during 2026 and replaced it with "Get custom pricing / Contact us" on its own pricing page. Ultimate is now negotiated per deal, which in practice means seat count, term length and whether you bundle GitLab Credits all move the number. Premium covers the vast majority of teams: unlimited users, 10,000 compute minutes, advanced CI/CD, project management and priority support. The line is security and compliance. If you need DAST, fuzz testing, dependency and container scanning, a vulnerability management workflow, or compliance dashboards for an ISO 27001 or SOC 2 audit, those are Ultimate-only and there is no partial upgrade. GitLab also does not allow mixed tiers — every user on the instance or top-level group must be on the same plan.
Compute minutes are the CI/CD runtime you consume on GitLab-hosted runners. A single job that takes 4 minutes and runs 30 times a day burns about 3,600 minutes a month on its own, so a busy team with test matrices and container builds can clear 10,000 quickly. Two ways out: top up at 0 per 1,000 minutes, or register your own runners (self-hosted runners consume no GitLab compute minutes at all, on any tier, including Free).

Yes, but how much depends on your reconciliation setting. Subscriptions since August 2021 default to quarterly subscription reconciliation: users added in Q3 are charged only for the remaining quarters, prorated. Without it you fall under the older annual true-up model, where users added at any point in the year are billed a full annual fee at renewal. Confirm which one your subscription is on before you scale a team up mid-term — the difference on 50 seats is substantial.
